DR. AKRE RECEIVES HIGHEST HONOR

At a luncheon during its annual convention on May 3, 2008, the Indiana Osteopathic Association (IOA) recognized Thomas G. Akre, D.O., of Mishawaka, with its highest honor. Dr. Akre received the J.B. Kinsinger Plaque for outstanding service to the osteopathic profession and his community. Dr. Akre received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He went on to receive his osteopathic medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMUCOMS) in Des Moines, IA, in 1996. He completed his internship at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, MI, in 1997, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the same institution in 2001. Dr. Akre is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, and practices orthopedic surgery at the Institute for Orthopedic and Nerve Surgery in Mishawaka, IN. Dr. Akre and his wife, Mary, reside in Granger with their seven children, Theresa, John, Michael, Austin, Gabriel, Julia, and Elaine.
The IOA represents more than 700 osteopathic physicians practicing in Indiana, and is a divisional society of the American Osteopathic Association representing more than 40,000 doctors of osteopathic medicine nationwide.
