After growing up in Ocean City, Maryland, and graduating from Salisbury University with Summa cum Laude honors, Dr. Matthew Folstein graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, the oldest public medical school in the country. Once deciding to specialize in general surgery, Dr. Folstein completed a general surgery residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas after three years of residency training at the University of Maryland Medical Center & R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. While in residency, he authored several peer reviewed publications and book chapters. He was the first resident at Texas Tech to be credentialed in Robotic Surgery by the University Medical Center and the da Vinci Surgical Group. Dr. Folstein specializes in Robotic Surgery as well as general, trauma, and minimally invasive surgery. He is the Medical Director of Robotic Surgery and the Chairman of Surgery at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Aside from his skills with surgery, Dr. Folstein is a first degree black belt in martial arts. He also enjoys golfing, racquetball, basketball, and spending time with his family.
